
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Tuensang organised a pre-season training under frontline demonstration on the topic “Ginger candy making-A value added product for sustainable livelihood” on November 22 sponsored by ATMA, directorate of Agriculture, Kohima.
A press release by KVK Tuensang stated that, Dr. Keviletsu Khate, senior scientist and head, KVK Tuensang gave a brief remark on the importance of value added product, manufacturing and marketing. Zhohu Puro, food safety officer (FSO), CMO Tuensang, also emphasized on the importance of FSSAI registration and licensing of different value added products and the penalties involved for defaulters under the act.
During the technical sessions, resource person Dr. Shisarenla Aier, SMS (horticulture), trained the participants on ginger candy making and king chilli pickle making followed by hands on demonstration on packaging, labelling and sealing of products. Chubasangla Chang a member of an SHG shared her experiences on wild apple candy making.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Dr. Shisarenla Aier, subject matter specialist (horticulture), KVK-TSG, invocation by Chubasangla Chang and welcome address by Seveto Nyekha, programme assistant, KVK Tuensang. Yanger I. Kichu delivered the vote of thanks.
Altogether 30 participants from three SHGs participated in the programme and as a start up for the SHGs, utensils, packaging materials, sealers, weighing balance and other items were distributed to all the three SHGs for further dissemination of the activities.
