Wants govt’s assurance to call off agitation

Amidst the ongoing Hornbill Festival, the agitation launched by Joint Action Forum (JAF) entered the second day paralysing functioning of State government offices.
Four associations – Nagaland Directorate Ministerial Service Association, All Nagaland District Ministerial Service Association, Trained Nurses’ Association of India, Nagaland Branch and Prison Service Association Nagaland – are protesting under the banner of JAF against non-implementation of RoP Pay Anomalies Committee (PAC) recommendation.
The four associations reportedly with more than 6,000 employees, including district and directorate ministerial staff, prison staff and nurses, are currently on a mass casual leave. However, nurses and prison staff have been partially relaxed from the purview based on humanitarian ground.
Meanwhile, JAF has announced that it was not in a position to call off its agitation without any assurance from the State government on its “genuine” demand. JAF members met the secretary finance (RoP cell) and shared their grievances, to which the latter reportedly gave a patient hearing and informed them the same would be conveyed to the government.
In a letter by its convener M Renthungo Tungoe and co-convener V Peter Rutsa, the forum informed finance secretary (ROP Cell), that on receipt of the letter from the government, its coordinating body and action committees from all associations held an emergency meeting at CANSSEA conference hall on Monday and unanimously decided not to call off the ongoing agitation as the government had totally rejected its “genuine demand”. JAF urged the finance secretary to reconsider the government decision on its demand at the earliest, after which it would call off the agitation.
