Joint Legislators’ Forum (JLF) on Naga Political Issue has decided to constitute a core committee for reaching a negotiated political settlement early.
In this regard a nominating committee has been formed with NLA speaker and JLF chairman Sharingain Longkumer, leader of opposition TR Zeliang, parliamentary affairs minister Neiba Kronu and H&FW minister S Pangnyu Phom as members. The committee has been entrusted to form the core committee comprising legislators cutting across party affiliations to urge the Centre and all stakeholders to reach an early settlement of the Naga political issue.
This followed a consultative meeting of JLF held under the chairmanship of NLA Speaker at the conference hall of Assembly Secretariat in Kohima Wednesday. During the meeting, the members deliberated extensively on the Naga political Issue and felt the urgent necessity for reaching an early negotiated political settlement and constitute a core committee in this regard.
Thereafter, chief minister Neiphiu Rio released booklets on profiles of NLA speakers and list of members from Interim Body of the 13th NLA and appealed to ex-parliamentarians gathered to support the effort of JLF. Kronu distributed laptops to all parliamentarians and ex-parliamentarians on the occasion. This was stated in a press release by NLA additional secretary Jenny Ndang.
