Swine Flu: Pig import banned in Mokokchung

Due to the occurrence of swine fever disease in the neighbouring state of Assam especially in the bordering districts of Jorhat and Sibsagar, the department of animal husbandry & veterinary, Mokokckchung has banned the import of pigs and also prohibited the import of pork into the district till further notice.

Assam bans supply of pork: Meanwhile, Assam government has banned the supply and distribution of pork meat until further notice with immediate effect.

It is to be mentioned that in the light of Swine fever scare, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal held a meeting with the top officials and scientists of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department and directed the department to conduct inquiry into the pig flu cases in the state and take remedial measures at the earliest in the greater interest of farmers engaged in the piggery sector.  

Further, samples of affected pigs have been sent to the National Institute of High-Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal for the detection of Swine Flu.
