Swine Flu: Pig slaughter banned in Bhandari

On receiving news on the outbreak of Swine Flu in nearby Jorhat and Sivasagar districts of Assam, ADC Bhandari has issued total ban on slaughter of pigs within the subdivision without prior health certificate or clearance.

Further, ADC Bhandari Tiameren Chang also cautioned that any person found selling meat and violating COVID-19 lockdown norms shall be penalised as per sections of IPC and Epidemic Disease Act. It may be noted that swine flu has been reported in several parts of Assam such as- Jorhat, Sivasagar, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Nagaon where around 1,300 pigs have reportedly died. In Dimapur, there has been no slaughter of pigs and sale of pork meat during the past week although no information has been issued to public.
