With educational institutions in the State to remain shut till further notice, Department of School Education (DoSE) has launched the video and audio lessons through Doordarshan Kendra Kohima and All India Radio (AIR).

However, in order to reach out to all the students, the department has written to Information & Broadcasting (I&B) ministry to make DD available in other service providers like– Tata Sky, Airtel TV etc.

Talking to Nagaland Post, DoSE principal director C. Shanavas Saturday said the ministry will be replying to the request very soon. (See table for timings)

The principal director said that Doordarshan Kendra Kohima started the programme on May 1 and AIR from May 2.

For the first week– from May 1 to May 7– the focus area will be for Class 9 and 10 students where classes will be  taken for 35 minutes each, the official said.

Shanavas informed that the video classes will not just be a one-time affair. Video and audio clips will be uploaded on Facebook and YouTube where students will be able to download them and view in their convenient time.

Also considering the limited access of television in rural areas, he said the department has requested the village councils and district administration to make use of the council halls where students can assemble and attend classes (class wise) by maintaining social distancing.

For class 12 students, Shanavas said the classes will begin by next week.

He also informed that this initiative will be carried out till lockdown period gets over.

Meanwhile, Shanavas informed that the department was contemplating to compensate the academic loss by cutting short summer break and also have classes on Saturdays.
