In a significant gesture of unity, all the eleven elected members from the Ao community (10 from Mokokchung and 1 from Dimapur) came together to extend support in the fight against COVID-19 at Mokokchung on Tuesday. The elected members Imkong L Imchen, Dr. Imtiwapang Aier and Amenba Yaden MLAs from the opposition NPF and minister Mestubo Jamir and advisor Dr. Longrineken from the ruling PDA government held a series of meetings with various civil society organizations. In the first meeting that was held at Ao Senden office with representatives of Ao Senden, Watsu Mungdang and Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), all the members had a thorough deliberation besides expressing various challenges in the district with regard to the fight against the pandemic.
The house after much discussion concluded that more efforts should be put on the border areas. The second meeting was held with the All Ward Union Mokokchung (AWUM) and Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT). At the meeting, the legislators expressed their gratitude to these two organizations for the yeoman job and philanthropist work offered during the 40 days lockdown. Legislators later held a meeting with the district administration and police at the DC’s chamber. The meeting reviewed the various points/issues raised during the earlier meetings and shared various inputs. Legislators further assured all possible help in the fight against the pandemic. Meanwhile, advisor Dr. Longrineken handed over a fogging machine to the deputy commissioner for use at Mokokchung donated by the state BJP.
