Despite the stress and constant criticisms against the functioning of quarantine centres in the State Capital, doctors and other health workers, district administration officials, security forces, caterers and all those people involved in manning the centres are giving their best to ensure that inmates are safe and comfortable.
With severe stress due to lack of sleep and improper diet in the past one week, one doctor and a nurse reportedly fainted while at work on Sunday and were taken home for rest.
When this Correspondent visited the quarantine centre at K Badze (P Khel), it was learnt that the health workers led by medical officer and all those involved in manning the quarantine centre shared the same bed and food just as the inmates. The workers are on call 24×7 without a break at the centre, where currently there were inmates only from orange and green zones.
Interacting with Nagaland Post, medical officer (MO) Dr Orentsani Kikon said since May 12, stranded people started coming in and now the centre, which has an intake capacity of 1,328 inmates, had over 700 inmates. She added that there were two medical teams under two MOs, and each team had 11 health workers on duty.
Mentioning that beginning Monday quarantine period from both orange and green zones would be 14 days, Dr. Kikon regretted that they could not make the inmates comfortable as their home because of the huge number people that kept coming. However, she hoped that the inmates too would understand the present situation and how everyone was battling COVID-19.
Regarding food, she said fish, eggs and potatoes were being provided along with rice to the inmates, besides tea and biscuits in the morning and juice and biscuits in the afternoon.
As per safety measures, even the garbage generated from the quarantine centre was not taken out of the centre premise and carefully disposed.
Currently, two persons shared one room with toilet attached as the inmates are from orange and green zones. However, health officials said once the centre started receiving person from red zone, each person would provided a single room.
In each room, two bathing and washing soaps, bucket, spoon, plate, mug, cups and toiletries were placed for use by the inmates.
Meanwhile, inmates who completed three-day quarantine in K Badze P Khel got discharged on Monday after going through the protocols with discharge slips and a lunch pack, before being deported to their respective districts.
Dr. Kikon said on completion of the quarantine period, the inmates were sent to their respective districts by transport arranged by the State government.
NAYO inspects K Badze
Northern Angami Youth Organisation (NAYO) team led by its president Roko Angami and general secretary Ruokuoneitso Kire inspected the quarantine centre and interacted with officials present at the centre.
After inspecting the blocks, rooms and kitchen, the NAYO team expressed satisfaction and lauded health workers of the centre and the government for the preparation being made.
