COVID-19: Inspections, meetings, directives and preventive measures

Legislators have stepped up their inspections of quarantine centres and the overall preparedness level in the state. With Nagaland confirmed of four COVID-19 positive cases, safety measures have been intensified for protection of the public. Returnees have been quarantined at Dimapur and Kohima institutional quarantine centres, while more are returning to the state almost on a daily basis. Cleanliness and social works are also being conducted around the quarantine areas as preparation to receive returnees. Meetings for coordination among various officials and departments are held at district and state level to monitor COVID-19 pandemic in the state. Government continues to remind public to stay home and stay safe, while keeping in mind to adhere to personal preventive measures and not to panic. 

DIMAPUR district

Haiying visits Central Jail & District Jail Dimapur

 Advisor for Prisons, Printing & Stationary, L. Haiying on Tuesday visited Central Jail and District Jail Dimapur to oversee the preparedness and for the welfare of the inmates during COVID-19 pandemic.

A press release by assistant inspector general of Prisons, Central Jail, Dimapur, Imtiangshi Ao informed that Haiying asked the officers and the staffs of Central Jail and District Jail, Dimapur to set up a separate observation wards for the new inmates as per the guide lines laid down by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and follow personal hygiene at all times.   Haiying also donated face mask and hand sanitizers and advised the prison staffs to take the utmost precautionary measures against COVID-19 while discharging their daily duties. The advisor was accompanied by IG (Prisons) Nagaland, L. Thungdemo Lotha and OSD minister for transport, Niholu Ayemi.

Legislators inspect quarantine centre
Advisor of Power, Tovihoto Aye and Azheto Zhimomi MLA visited the quarantine centre at Livingstone Foundation International School (LFIS) at Kevijau-Thahekhu on May 25. A press release from Western Sumi Hoho stated that, the quarantine centre is sponsored by WSBAK and Western Sumi Hoho (WSH). A total of 200 beds have been installed for returnees from outside. 
 
Peren district
Quarantine facility centres dedicated at Ahthibung
Dedication ceremony of all the institutional quarantine facility centres was held at Ahthibung town on May 24. 
A press release from Quarantine Facility Management Board (QFMB) member secretary, Chungminthang Singson stated that, centres were arranged with participation of all stakeholders to accommodate 70 inmates. 
The programme was attended by Ruopfukuotuo Noudi, SDO (Civil), Adhoc-Town Committee, GBs, Health, Police departments, Kuki Inpi, AYSU, Kuki mothers and members of QFMB. 
The brief programme was chaired by Tonga Hangsing, manager, Quarantine Facility Centre, and all the 5 centres were dedicated by Rev. Janglam centre 1, Rev. Lenkhokam Hangsing centre 2, Upa Paongul centre 3, Rev. K. Singsit centre 4 and Pr. Seilun Singson centre 5, respectively. 
 
Social work at Peren quarantine centres
District administration of Peren in collaboration with Joint Action Committee (JAC) on COVID-19 carried out social work on May 25 at ITI Polytechnic Hostel, Peren Government College staff quarter & Peren Government College quarantine centre. According to DIPR report, during the social work, two excavators were used in digging temporary toilets and clearing of approach roads. 
Altogether 117 volunteers from 5 villages under Jalukie sub-division participated in the social work.


Mon district
Mobile van for collecting COVID-19 samples launched
Mon District COVID-19 Task Force has launched a mobile van for collection of COVID-19 samples. According to DIPR report, considering the logistics and time involved in collecting the nasal throat swabs, the mobile sample collection van ensures that people do not have to travel to the COVID-19 Hospital to have their sample collected. The mobile sample collection van helps guarantee the safety of the health workers and reduces the use of PPEs as the doctor/lab technician collecting the sample from inside the mobile van do not have to wear PPEs. This initiative will supplement the COVID-19 walk-in Sample Kiosk (WISK)/Sample Collection Booth already in place at the District Hospital, Mon.
 
Kohima district
Tseminyu quarantine committee holds meeting
Tseminyu COVID-19 quarantine committee held an emergency meeting on May 25 at GHSS building, Tseminyu town, wherein ideas about management of returnees in quarantine centres were discussed.  Various groups consisting of NGOs/volunteers, GBs and government officials have been set up including reception and liaison, logistic and centres management, medical, security, information and publicity, sanitation and water supply, electricity, waste disposal and disinfection. All concerned department officials participated in the discussion.
ADC Nokchasashi Kichu chaired the meeting, where he acknowledged the responsibilities shared by NGOs/Rengma Hoho, RSU, RSZ, TYO, Traders Union, Town GBs. ADC reminded all the leaders of NGOs which also include team CRBC led by executive secretary Haiwalo Apon, and government officials in Tseminyu sub-division to continue their much needed efforts for indefinite management duty on COVID-19.
RSU president Heiko Kent invited the government employees and public of Tseminyu sub-division to continue to come forward in any possible way for the cause of preventive and protective measures on COVID-19. Kenneth Kath, president Rengma Selo Zi spoke about the sincere concern from public for safe stay of the returnees in Tseminyu quarantine centres. Concerning ready accommodation rooms for returnees in five quarantine centres at Tseminyu, EAC Rozy Sangtam, informed that there were fifteen for women and thirty for men, for which construction works for immediate completion of makeshift/temporary toilets and others at GHSS building is being undertaken in a systematic manner.
 
Tuensang district
ADC Noklak issue directives
Additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Noklak, M. Chaitanya Prasad in an order has banned the sale and consumption of pan, gutkha and tobacco products. According to DIPR report, spitting in public places and Institution is strictly prohibited as preventive measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 infections. Failure to comply with this order shall attract legal action under section 188 of the Indian penal code and under relevant sections of the National Disaster Management Act 2005. All pet owners have also been directed to prevent their pets from straying outside their respective home premises in order to prevent/reduce the risk of transmission of the disease. Violation of this direction shall attract strict action against the owner as per the relevant section of National Disaster management Act 2005. It shall be mandatory for all public to wear mask in public places. Defaulters shall be penalized under Epidemic Disease Act 1897 (IPC section 188). Children below 10 years of age are amongst the higher risk category, parents have been advised not to send their wards/children under 10 years for errands in the town area.
