State government has intensified preventive measures even as more returnees arrive from other parts of the country. The district administrations continues to remind people about social distancing and using all the essential preventives for their own safety and for others. More TrueNat laboratories are being set up in various districts to meet the requirements of the situation. Various churches continue to look out for the returnees in quarantine centres not only for their physical comforts but for spiritual needs as well. Social organisations along with concerned departments are contributing fresh organic vegetable to the quarantine centres. Meanwhile, keeping in view the harmful effects on tobacco consumption, some responsible social groups are keeping a check on sale of such products.
Phek District
Kronu inaugurates TrueNat lab at CHC Pfutsero
TrueNat laboratory was inaugurated and installed at CHC Pfutsero by minister of Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu on June 15. According to DIPR report, the TrueNat machine was donated by the minister.
The inaugural programme was chaired by ADC Pfutsero, Phuleshe K Yepthomi and vote of thanks delivered by SMO CHC Pfutsero, Dr Lhishelo.
PTCSU, PCCI destroy tobacco products
Having learnt that some business establishments were selling Gutkas and other tobacco products at very exorbitant rate at Phek town, a clear violation of the government directives, the Phek Town Chakhesang Students’ Union (PTCSU) and Phek Chamber of Commerce & Industries (PCCI) jointly conducted a surprise inspection within its jurisdiction on June 9 and 10. A press release from PTCSU president Surhoveyi Khesoh and general secretary Nukhozo Chuzho and PCCI president Kuvethisa Hoshi and general secretary Chetezo Akami stated that, the two organisations seized the tobacco products and trade permit/license of the defaulters for selling and stocking of the ban products. The seized items worth about Rs. 1.20 lakhs at MRP rate and over Rs. 5 lakhs at inflated rate were destroyed in the presence of the district administration, DBs and other civil bodies.
The organizations strongly warned the dealers/suppliers/retailers to abstain from such activities, adding that it shall be compelled to take stricter action if such activities detected again. It also appealed the district administration and police personnel on duty to be more vigilant in monitoring such activities.
Kohima District
Implementation of JJM meeting held in Kohima
Deputy commissioner Kohima Gregory Thejawelie held a meeting with the members of District Water Sanitation Mission (DWSM) on implementation of flagship programme Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) at DC chamber office Kohima on June 15.
According to DIPR report, officials from PHE department briefed that Jal Jeevan Mission was a central government initiative under the Ministry of Jal Shakti which aims to ensure access of pipe water for every household in India. The DWSM would be headed by deputy commissioner and some other departmental heads as members at the district level for overall implementation of JJM.
The mission’s goal is to provide household pipeline connection to all households in rural India safe and adequate water through individual household tap connections by 2024.
Adding that the Jal Jeevan Mission will be based on a community approach to water and the mission will include information, education and communication as key components and to create a people’s movement for water, making it everyone’s priority.
The meeting also discussed the implementation of the programme and further selection of villages for augmentation and household connection under Kohima district rural areas.
Kohima DTF COVID-19 meeting
Kohima District Task Force COVID-19 held a meeting at the DC office chamber, Kohima on June 15.
According to DIPR report, the meeting was in regard to the recommendation of chief secretary for release of returnees who have tested negative twice from Paid Quarantine and institutional quarantine to home quarantine for Kohima and to other districts.
DC and chairman of DTF Kohima Gregory Thejawelie briefed that recommendation for the same has been forwarded to the chief secretary war room and once the approval came from the chief secretary, the DTF will intimate the concerned districts and release the inmates.
Altogether 59 inmates for the districts of Zunheboto, Kohima, Tuensang, Phek and Mokokchung have forwarded the recommendation for the release of the returnees from institutional and paid quarantine centres.
The meeting was attended by incharge of institutional and paid quarantine centres.
Zunheboto District
ZTBC Zunheboto special Sunday service
ZTSBC Zunheboto held special Sunday service at all the quarantine centres in Zunheboto town on June 14, under the theme, “Together we shall/will overcome. According to DIPR report, the team led by Rev. Dr. Daniel Chishi encouraged the internees and counselled them through the word of God. He also strengthened their spirits and give them hope. The service was conducted maintaining social distancing and was attended by church staff and internees housed at the quarantine centres. The theme for the service being together we shall/will overcome.
AASU motivates farmers with agricultural seeds
With the objective of helping poor farmers and to lessen their sufferings during the time of pandemic, the Ato Area Students’ Union (AASU) with assistance from SDAO Niuland Kivika distributed agricultural seeds to 203 families under Ato area. A press release from AASU stated that, 203 families were beneficiaries and received agricultural seeds such as maize, soybeam and pigeon pea.
Dimapur District
Dimapur DTF to intensify awareness campaigns
Deputy commissioner Dimapur, Anoop Khinchi convened a meeting of Dimapur DTF members on June 15 and deliberated on issues pertaining to COVID-19.
According to DIPR report, the meeting decided for intensifying awareness campaign to educate the people on the importance of social distancing, wearing masks and maintaining hand hygiene as COVID-19 was bound to stay for a long time.
DC Dimapur informed that latest test carried out for 350 persons only 5 positive cases were detected and was optimistic that the number of positive cases would continue to dwindle down in the near future.
Commissioner police Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo reminded the members not to give too much importance on the negative circulation of fake news in different social media platforms.
SHGs, VLOs under NSRLM provides fresh vegetables
Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Village Level Organisations (VLOs) under Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), Dimapur, distributed a truckload of fresh vegetables and rice bags to different quarantine centres in Dimapur, namely Agri Expo 4th mile, Government College Dimapur and Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School on June 13.
A press release from NSRLM stated that, the fresh vegetables and rice bags were contributed by different SHGs and VLOs under Chumukedima block, Niuland and Kuhuboto blocks of Dimapur district. SHGs from Manglamukh village, Dhansiripar block also donated fresh vegetables to the Ganeshnagar quarantine centre.
Programme manager livelihoods (PM Lds) Atenjen Lemtur and the livelihood staff of NSRLM, under Dimapur district collected the vegetables from the different villages and distributed to the different centres.
Ghaspani Battalion
With scarcity of water in maintaining an 80 bedded quarantine facility at Cooperative Training Centre, Medziphima, Ghaspani Battalion assisted the facility in supplying potable water on June 11.
