Highest single-day spike of 71 cases; state tally now 845
With a record single-day spike of 71 new COVID-19 positive cases, Nagaland’s tally zoomed past the 800-mark on Monday while 13 patients also recovered from the deadly virus. With this the state’s tally stood at 845 cases– 505 active and 340 recovered. Out of 71 cases, 60 were reported from among the paramilitary forces who had recently come to Dimapur from several parts of the country, sources said.
They include 39 personnel from ARTC, Sukhovi, 16 from 5 Assam Rifles and 5 CRPF personnel. The remaining cases were reported from Mon- 7 cases and Kohima- 8 cases. As per the severity of symptoms, 490 active cases were asymptomatic and 15 with mild symptoms. Sources said that the security personnel were quarantined at their respective unit’s quarantine centre during which some had shown symptoms for COVID. Accordingly, 155 samples were collected from among those returnees (paramilitary personnel) and sent to Bio Safety Level-2 laboratory at CIHSR on July 11 for testing and 60 tested positive for COVID-19.
The positive cases were shifted to designated COVID hospitals and COVID Care Centre, Chümoukedima.
Meanwhile, state Health & Family Welfare minister, S. Pangnyu Phom Monday informed that 13 more persons recovered from COVID-19. 10 of them were from COVID-19 Care Centre, Jakhama, 2 from Dimapur and 1 from Kohima. However, he said the patients will be kept under strict surveillance.
Till July 13, a total of 16,656 samples were sent for testing through RT-PCR and results of 16,214 samples were received. Out of the 16,656 samples, 12,338 were been sent for testing at the BSL-3 lab (NHAK) and BSL-2 lab (CIHSR) and out of which 698 samples have tested positive. In addition a total of 10,257 samples were also sent for testing through TrueNat out of which 9,619 samples tested negative and 305 samples tested positive, which have been sent for confirmation by RT-PCR.
As on July 13, a total of 3330 persons were presently under facility quarantine.
NL House Delhi sealed after 5 test COVID +ve
The entire Nagaland House complex in Delhi at Dr. A.P.J. Kalam Road (erstwhile Aurangzeb Road) has been sealed as containment zone after five staff had tested positive for COVID-19. According to official sources, the first case was detected about a week ago from one of the staff who had recently returned from Dimapur.
The staff was then shifted to BLK and admitted to ICU and presently recovering. As part of contact tracing, three more staff members of the guest house were also tested and confirmed COVID-19 positive.
On Sunday, the fifth positive case was confirmed after around forty staff and families were tested. It was learnt that by Tuesday, another sixty staff and family members will also be tested for COVID-19.
