Village Councils, Village Education Committees (VECs)/School Management Committees, GBs, students’ union of Kelto, Shevishe, Viyilho and Ngozubo villages and Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) held a joint consultative meeting on August 1 at Aghunato with regards to the issue of incomplete school buildings construction in the above villages.
A press release by ESSU president, Hokato V Yepthomi stated that after a threadbare discussion, a four-point resolution was passed by the members. In its first resolution, the meeting condemned and nullified all resolutions adopted at the July 1 meeting by “the questionable authority” held without the knowledge of the competent authority, deputy commissioner/district education committee chairman and district education officer/district project coordinator.
It stated that the Village Education Committee members, GBs and head teacher were ignorant of the meeting called without proper authority. It also resolved that VECs/School Management Committees of the four villages does not have any role in the construction of the school buildings as it was solely constructed by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), District Management Authority Zunheboto (DMAZ).
Therefore the release stated that, VECs/SMCs cannot be held responsible for the incompletion and abandonment of the GMS buildings.
The meeting resolved to demand that the abandoned school buildings in the four villages should be completed at the earliest and the culprits be punished as per the provision of the law.
Meeting also resolved to extend unflinching support to ESSU in its pursuit of resolving the issue.
