
United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) has served a five-day ultimatum on the internet service providers (ISPs) in the state including Reliance Jio and Bharati Airtel to restore/improve internet connectivity in Kiphire district within five days.
In an ultimatum to centre managers of Reliance Jio and Bharati Airtel, the USSC vice president Sethrongba Y Sangtam and executive secretary K Rothrongki Sangtam said that failure to address the grievances within the stipulated period, would compel the conference to initiate further steps of action.
USSC said that despite repeated appeals for improvement of internet services in the district, the internet connectivity remained “pathetic” with no signs of improvement.
USSC said that ever since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic all normal life, particularly the student community, had been affected owing to continued lockdown. The union said that all educational institutions and students rely on the internet for online class, but due to poor internet service, many students were facing untold suffering.
It said that smooth flow of all digital learning and teaching process should not be affected by poor internet service.
