Kohima Smart City Development (KSCD) Ltd in collaboration with the Nagaland Mountain Biking Association (NMBA) and the Tribal Cult will be conducting a free “community bicycle workshop” on August 30, 10 a.m at the Old Assembly Secretariat to promote safe, smart and confident bicycling.
A press release by KSCD Ltd, CEO, Kovi Meyase stated that, workshop is for commuters, recreational riders and young people to promote bicycle safety. It also aims at equipping old and new riders alike with the resources and skills to ride a bicycle safely and confidently, with the ultimate goal of increasing bicycle ridership in Kohima.
Basic cycling techniques like braking, cornering, ideal body position, attack position, bunny hopping, climbs, jumps and drops will be demonstrated at the workshop by cycling experts from the city.
Participants have been requested to bring along their own bicycles and safety gears. A few bicycles will also be made available for those who wish to give cycling a try.
This is in continuation of the India Cycles4Change Challenge whereby Kohima under the initiative of the Kohima Smart City Development Ltd. is participating in the competition along with 95 other cities. It is an initiative of the Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India which would conclude by October 2020.
In a separate programme, KSCD Ltd also initiated first “handle bar survey” for India Cycles4Change a free “community bicycle workshop”, with cyclists and traffic personnel to gather qualitative and quantitative information regarding existing conditions.
A press release by KSCD Ltd stated that the survey was conducted to collect information about pedestrian and bicycle network gaps, signalised intersections, bicycle parking demand, safe/unsafe routes, posted and actual vehicular speeds and way finding amenities.
