The 7th Mile Model Village Council (VC) and Women Association 7th Mile Model Village have appreciated authorities for having detected and busted an illegal liquor bottling unit at a closed mineral water bottling plant on the outskirts of the village some distance away from Dimul factory and GD Plastic factory on September 2.
In a press release, VC chairman Imkong Tzuder said that the incident had caught the people totally unaware and shocked them. He therefore urged the authority concerned to take stern action against the perpetrators for tarnishing “our image”. VC also warned individuals or groups against practising any such anti-social activity and urged the general public to report any suspicious activity to the council.
Referring to the ban on sale and consumption of alcohol in and around Chumoukedima by civil society organisations in sync with the NLTP Act, he claimed that the VC had always extended its full cooperation to fight such anti-social activities and assured of its support.
The chairman said there are seven village lanes that connect directly with NH 29 and no suspicious activities as such were noticed in these lanes. He suspected that the perpetrators must have used other private lanes to avoid public view.
Women association: 7th Mile Model Village Women Association president Atula and general secretary Aien Koza too appreciated the efforts of 5th Assam Rifles in busting the illegal spurious liquor plant. Claiming that the association had been busy checking sale of liquor in its jurisdiction for the past two years with the help of youth organisation, they said the women’s body had also published statements in local dailies on May 23, 2018 announcing strict prohibition of all illegal activities under its jurisdiction.
They said the association and youth body had shut down five wholesalers of wine and four alcohol stocks were completely closed but were quite unaware of this plant within their jurisdiction that shocked them.
Strongly condemning the illegal act, the association urged the government to give strictest of punishment to the persons involved, while appealing to all right-thinking CSOs to condemn such an evil business in Naga society.
