Institutions across Nagaland have been conducting webinars to discuss on various topics and to educate attendees.
FPAI: Family Planning Association of India (FPAI) Nagaland branch organised a webinar on September 18. Speaking at the programme, consultant obstetrics and gynaecologist, Dr. Nuonenuo Terhase stated that early exposure to sexual activities like early marriage that usually happened in the mainland India, lack of sex education and lack of knowledge of contraceptive devices caused teenage pregnancy.
Dr. Terhase speaking on prevention of teenage pregnancy, she highlighted on primary steps which were sexual education in schools, media, homes and secondary preventions such as counselling and improved accessibility of contraception which is done in various hospitals.
In order to prevent the incidences, she informed that there were numerous services available such as Adolescents Reproductive and Sexual Health (ARSH) clinic available in all district hospitals and in village levels sub-centres.
ICAR-NRC on Mithun: ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema conducted a webinar on “formulation of mithun insurance policy” in collaboration with National Insurance Co. Ltd (NIC) on September 18.
A press release by ICAR-NRC on Mithun stated that director, ICAR- NRC on mithun, Dr. Abhijit Mitra presented the scenario of mithun production system in the region and highlighted the multi dimensional socio-cultural-economic role of mithun.
Chief technical officer, ICAR-NRCM, Dr. Kobu Khate presented technical production parameters, methods of animal identification and control measures of commonly prevalent diseases in mithun.
Officials of NIC, Kolkata briefed the house about insurance terms and policy coverage followed by interactive session. Principal scientist, ICAR headquarter, New Delhi, Dr. Vineet Bhasin, former professor, WBUVFS, Kolkata, Prof. S. Pan and DGM, NABARD, Nagaland, Sahoo also gave inputs.
General manager NIC, Peter Chittaranjan assured that NIC would formulate an insurance policy for mithun by November 2020 considering the inputs.
Earlier, the webinar was attended by scientists and technical officers of ICAR-NRC on mithun, officials of NIC head office, its regional and branch offices in North Eastern states, representatives of NABARD and officials from department of veterinary & animal husbandry of all the mithun rearing states.
MCK: National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Raa Media, in collaboration with Department of Economics and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Modern College Kohima organized a webinar on “financial literacy”, hosted by NSE on September 19. Expert speaker for the programme was multilingual business broadcast journalist/financial trainer/media consultant, Raa Media, Prathyush Bhaskar. He presented concepts on Security Exchange Board of India (SEBI) financial planning, savings and investments, mutual funds. Programme was attended by senior officials from national stock exchange, officials from Raa Media, students and staff from Modern College and across the state.
Earlier, MCK, department of political science organised a national webinar on the topic, “new dynamics of India-China relations: the way ahead”. Speakers were academic dean, Jindal School of International affairs O.P. Jindal global university, Haryana Dr. Sriparna Pathak, Sikkim University, Gangtok, Dr Gadde Omprasad and Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal Karnataka, Dr. Monish Tourangbam.
While presenting her topic on “India-China relationship in 2020: a snapshot”, Dr. Sriparna Pathak touched on implications of the recent fall out particularly after the Galwan clash between Indian and Chinese forces. Dr Gadde Omprasad presented on “China initiated connectivity projects in South Asia: implications for India” while Dr. Monish Tourangbam emphasized on “the US Factor in India-China relations”. Altogether 220 people from across India participated.
ARK Foundation: Webinar on “sensitization workshop on substance abuse in Nagaland” was conducted for faculty and students of Tetso College on September 11-12 by ARK foundation. A press release by the foundation stated that separate webinar for faculty and students were conducted in collaboration with Tetso College, Dimapur through the support of department of social welfare, moderated by Dr. Aniruddha Babar. Tetso College, vice principal, Dr. Hewasa Lorin highlighted the issues of substance abuse in Nagaland and the importance of right guidance and advice to youth to make correct choices.
NE regional director, Kripa Foundation, Abou Mere mentioned about the importance of preventing substance use and its disorder among young population as very crucial.
Assistant director, Social Welfare department, K. Wango Langsym highlighted initiatives taken up by the department along with various NGOs.
Peace Channel and NEISSR: A webinar on “the role of teachers in peace education” was organized by Peace Channel and NEISSR on September 11, with reader, SCERT, Roseline Dzuvichu and president, All Nagaland Private Schools Association (ANPSA), Nini Sekhose, as the resource persons.
A press release by Peace Channel stated that Sekhose in her presentation emphasised on role of teachers in creating peace starting from micro-level, classroom, which was expected to be enhanced to greater environment by students themselves. Roseline Dzuvichu presented that teachers played the most critical and important role in upbringing of children and for the same, teachers were potential peace builders in their own profession and they should practice skills such as integrity, conviction, commitment, self-discipline etc.
Trainer and consultant Vitono Gugu Haralu, moderated the session.
IQAC Unity College: Webinar on National Education Policy (NEP) was organised by IQAC, Unity College, Dimapur on September 18 to create awareness amongst teaching, non-teaching faculty and students about NEP launched on July 29. A press release by Unity College IQAC coordinator, Dr. Adani Ngullie stated that resource person professor of Political Sc, Hyderabad Central University and also in Centre for the Study of Developing societies-Lokniti Network, E. Venkatesu shared aims, basic purpose of the NEP 2020 and vision to “transform India” by revamping the structure of education at all levels. He emphasized on revamping of regulatory mechanism which higher education commission of India will be set up and under this umbrella four main verticals- NHERC, GEC, HEGC and NAC will function under it.
Earlier, welcome note was given by Dr. Adani Ngullie. Around 173 participants from the college took part in the webinar.
Can Youth: Can Youth organised a webinar on “tobacco burden and its control in Nagaland” for adolescents on September 18 with joint director, health & family welfare, Nagaland, Dr. Chiekroshuyi Tetseo and state nodal officers, NTCP, deputy regional director, Tobacco and NCD Control, Union South East Asia, New Delhi, Dr. Rana Jugdeep Singh and psychologist, NTCP Dimapur, Imkumla Aier as panellists.
A press release by Can Youth, project coordinator, Sentiwati stated that Dr. Chiekroshuyi Tetseo encouraged participants to be youth icons to lead the campaign to become ambassadors of anti-tobacco.
Speaking on tobacco use based on comparison of survey (2009-10) and (2016-17) global and state level, Dr. Rana Jugdeep Singh stated that currently in Nagaland 43.3% of tobacco users were 39% smokeless tobacco users and 13% smokers. On nicotine addiction, Imkumla Aier elaborated on the importance in understanding problems like, ache, identity crisis, neurasthenia and addiction which were common among the adolescents.
Chief functionary, Can Youth, Jenpu Rongmei stressed on the current scenario and the need for strong advocacy policy in the village level and in educational institutes.
C-Edge College: C-edge College organised its 6th parent-guardian-teachers (PTC) conference virtually via Google Meet on September 11.
A press release by HoD of management studies & IQAC coordinator, Wapanginla Ao stated that principal of the college, Dr. Chubatola Aier encouraged all to develop the right attitude during the pandemic, to be productive, build sustainable lives, to understand changing times and needs.
Academic dean, Daisy Shitio presented a report where academic progress of the college in the preceding semester was highlighted. A report was also received from faculty in-charge RRC and NSS, Ikaito Zhimo.
Blood donation drives were the centre of RRC report where parents and guardians were encouraged to allow their wards to help the community. 81 attendees participated in the conference and issues relating to students attendance and connectivity were also addressed.
Tetso College: Tetso college led by its department of psychology commemorated “world Alzheimer’s day” by conducting a webinar on the theme “let’s talk about dementia” with senior medical officer, state mental health institute, Nagaland Dr. Viketoulie Pienyu as resource speaker.
Dr. Pienyu gave insights on the onset and causes of Alzheimer’s, psychosocial care, treatment and medication. Further, he emphasized on the need to spread awareness, provide care and enhance the quality of the life of people suffering from Alzheimer’s. Earlier, the session was chaired by assistant professor, department of psychology, Nouzhienino Peseyie while opening remarks were given by assistant professor, department of psychology, Wondanglo Lotha.
