Since solution to the protracted Indo-Naga political issue is not confined to the present state of Nagaland, and while Naga integration will be pursued through democratic political process, WC, NNPGs said the issue of integration cannot stop Government of India (GoI) from announcing a solution. However, consultation with neighbouring states remains equally important, the committee stated in a statement. According to WC, NNPGs, Centre’s position was clear and unchanged that negotiations have been completed, all mutually agreed matters taken to a higher table and it is only a matter of timing as to when government of India deemed it appropriate to announce to Naga people.
The committee emphasised that this was not the time for Nagas to be apprehensive or nervous, nor to fall prey to desperate interpretations of facts on the ground. Calling for living in reality and not in illusion, the committee said this was the hour for Naga people to be cautious, prayerful and be aware of restless and desperate elements.
The committee asserted that it retained “what is practical and that which entrenches our history and political right” and sought utmost solidarity and prayer support from Naga people.
Meanwhile, Centre’s interlocutor to Naga peace talks and governor RN Ravi held a meeting with WC, NNPGs convener N Kitovi Zhimomi, co-conveners Zhopra Vero, Isak Sumi, Z Hozheto Chophy, Kiumukam, Toshi Walling, P Tikhak and Raitu Chawang, co-ordinator Alezo Venuh and secretary Ghukiho T Zhimo at police guest house at Chumukedima here on Wednesday.
According to WC, the interlocutor assured Naga people through the WC delegation that this was a moment for Nagas to be steadfast and patient since government of India has consistently conveyed its position that all crucial issues have been resolved with the formal negotiations with Naga groups having successfully concluded on October 31, 2019.
The hour-long interaction between the interlocutor and WC, NNPGs representatives focussed on tying loose ends as a prelude to imminent solution, the release added.
