Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) organised a “Legal Awareness”, programme at Bubu Tzubu Amphitheatre, Ungma village on February 20.
The awareness camp was led by retainer lawyer, Limanungsang.
Speaking on the topic ‘Moneylender’s Act 2005 & 2006’ of Nagaland, advocate L B Namo stated that a person who aspires to be a moneylender has to acquire a license/certificate from the government with a minimum deposit of Rs. 1 crore in a nationalised bank and can practice money lending business by levying annual interest of 3%.
He cautioned that money lending business without the certificate was illegal and punishable under law with a jail term of six months and a fine of Rs.2500 or both.
MDLSA, district project assistant Mapujungla Pongen, who spoke on the topic “Domestic Violence Act and POCSO Act”, cited that Domestic Violence Act was entirely to protect the violence or harassment meted out against women in a family.
But after thorough review, she stated that the Act also implies for men, as well. She said that the POCSO Act was enacted to protect children below the age of 18 from every form of sexual abuse.
Advocate I Imkong Jamir spoke on the “Village council act” while MDLSA Para Legal Volunteer (PLV) Bendangsenla spoke about ‘Cyber Crime’.
The programme was chaired by PLV Molusen while the vote of thanks was proposed by retainer lawyer Limanunsang and Ungma village council chairman, Nungshi.
