
Dimapur police and Assam Rifles in a joint operation, rescued a truck driver and the helper after they were reportedly abducted by unknown miscreants from Purana Bazaar area on March 13.
Informing this in a joint statement, president Dimapur District Truck Owners Union Vishito and president Dimapur District Truck Drivers Union Kaiho, under the banner of the co-ordination committee of the unions, said that the driver Arif Khan and his helper Wilson Naik were rescued from Thilixu village area.
They lauded Dimapur police under the leadership of Commissioner of Police and Assam Rifles Dimapur Battalion for rescuing the duo. The unions hoped and prayed that the police and AR will keep up the good work and coordinate with each other for the safety and security of the public.
Meanwhile, a video statement by the driver (Md. Arif) that went viral, claimed that he was a resident of Jammu & Kashmir. He said he had travelled all the way from Kashmir to Kohima via Gujarat. While returning, his truck hit a vehicle in Dimapur in a traffic jam.
Arif said when some persons held him, he begged them for mercy and was ready to bear the cost for the damage. However, Arif claimed that he was taken to an unknown place and was later tied, blindfolded and assaulted. He said the security forces later rescued him.
