
Nagaland’s COVID-19 tally rose to 12,405 after five more persons tested positive for the infection while two new fatalities pushed the coronavirus death toll to 93 (10 not Covid related deaths), State Health department stated on Sunday.
The deaths were reported in Dimapur and Mokokchung, Health officials said.
A 74-year-old woman succumbed to COVID-19 at COVID-19 Hospital in Mokokchung Saturday evening. She is the fourth person to have lost her battle against COVID-19 from the district. Official sources from the Health & Family Welfare department disclosed that the deceased was first treated at a private hospital where she was found COVID-positive and was immediately referred to the district COVID-19 Hospital.
The sources said she had diarrhoea and shortness of breath when she was admitted to the hospital and later died due to the viral infection on Saturday evening. The victim’s daughter, who has a travel history (from Delhi), is also admitted at the hospital and the family members have been kept in isolation, the sources added.
Houses sealed, containment zone: Meanwhile, following the death of the woman, deputy commissioner (DC) Mokokchung Limawabang Jamir ordered sealing of seven houses in the town till further orders for carrying out intensive contact tracing to contain the spread of the virus.
In the order, the DC informed that the following houses were sealed– H/No. 321, 246 (ABC), 225, 296 (Block 3),222 (A/B) and 340, all in Kumlong Ward, besides H/No. 54 in Mongsenbai Ward.
Stating that the containment zone was mapped and cordoned off, the order advised public and all concerned to follow all safety precautions to ensure public and personal safety in the proximity of the containment Zone.
Failure to comply with the guideline would attract penalisation under various sections of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the Epidemic Disease Act, 1897 and relevant sections of the IPC, the order warned.
