Sovima Village Council (SVC) has vehemently condemned the act meted out by some miscreants who threatened some butchers at Neiphezou Khel Sovima, adjacent to Diphupar B village, by firing automatic weapons at weighing scales and in the air on July 2.

In a condemnation note, Sovima village head GB, Thepfukeduo, alleged that the miscreants had threatened butchers on the pretext that the pork they purchased in the morning was less than the amount they paid for.

While cautioning all butchers not to tamper with weighing scales, the village council condemned the act of the miscreants, “who claimed to be from a particular faction of the Naga underground, firing in a public place creating immense fear in the minds of peace-loving citizens of the area”. SVC expressed doubt that the meat purchased by miscreants was less than they paid for “as the portion was taken away and returned later.”

It said that if it was not properly weighed and the purchasers were “short-shifted”, it was equally condemnable.

However, the council stated the issue did not justify carrying of automatic weapons and firing in public areas, adding that such terror activities should not be condoned, tolerated or forgiven in its jurisdiction.

Further, stating that butchers under the village area to provide accurate amount of meat, SVC warned that stringent action would be taken against them to the extent of asking the administration to penalise defaulters or cancel their trade licences.

Meanwhile, the council has appealed “to all NNPGs not to resort to such dastardly acts” and to strictly monitor the activities of their cadres and “prevent them from vitiating the peaceful atmosphere” in the area.
