Even as the India Meteorological Department predicted isolated rainfall over North East, heavy rainfall coupled with hailstorm lashed several parts of Meghalaya on Wednesday.
According to reports, hailstorm left a blanket of pebble-sized hailstones covering parts of Shillong. It was reported that ward’s lake also turned white following hailstorm, which halted traffic in several parts of the city. On December 22 last, Shillong was covered beautifully under a thick blanket of hailstone or possible snowflakes after rainfall accompanied by hailstorm hit several parts of the region. Photos shared on social media showed large areas of Shillong and its suburbs covered with thick blanket of hailstone.
IMD in its weather bulletin predicted scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during January 20-22.
