Minister of Health and Family Welfare S. Pangnyu Phom on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for up-gradation of Primary Health Centre (PHC) Atoizu to Community Health Centre (CHC) at Atoizu PHC on January 25.
Speaking at the programme after laying the foundation stone, Pangnyu admitted that many lives have been lost due to lack of medical facilities but with the up gradation, he hoped that CHC will facilitate better health care delivery services to the public. The minister also said that Atoizu PHC also regarded as the oldest and upgrading to CHC after 44 years was “long overdue”.
Admitting that government has failed in some areas, the minister called upon the people to extend support reminding them that through their participation development could take place.
Noting that many infrastructures in the health centres cannot be taken up by the government due to land issue, he urged the public leaders, civil societies to educate the people so that land owner ship and court issues can be removed and development in health sector could take place.
Giving a brief overview on Atoizu PHC, Dr.Y Aron Muru, DTO & DPO (UIP & RCH), Zunheboto said that it was established in 1978 and covers five Sub Centres and functioning with the strength of two medical officers, three nurses (GNM , LHV&ANM), and few supporting staffs. He stated that with up-gradation coming into reality, the long felt need and aspiration of the people of Atoizu and district as a whole has been fulfilled.
