Western Sumi Hoho appeals

The celebratory spirit of Christmas and the new year came early for the Western Sumi people with the upgradation of Niuland and Chümoukedima as the 14th and 15th districts of Nagaland respectively.
Upgradation or expansion of administrative set ups may not be a guarantee for good governance, but it certainly is justification for obtaining whatever schemes for upgraded setups, but that itself begins and will end there if people of the two new born districts carved out of Dimapur district fail to address the many issues which need to be handled with cooperative wisdom, and if our society is to come out of the shadow of doubt, confusion and conflict.
Celebrations are but momentary, and the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) is deeply aware that the more things change, the more they remain the same. And this is reason enough for the hoho to seriously ponder over the painful reality that there is so much of poverty and very less of prosperity.
For too long, governance has taken a back seat and the problems of the old continues to dominate, and which cannot be wished away unless there is radical change in the life style and thinking of our people. Our society is in drift and the failure of our polity to correct the drift has created an overall negative impact – economically, socially and morally.
There is “ism” both socially and politically and it had fractured our society and communities in so many different ways. It is our bounden duty and responsibility to ensure that the root of ism is uprooted in its nascent stage atleast from the psyche and mind of our children.
Our regressive politics riding on the back of culture and tradition will have to give way to the coming together of minds for a contemporary modern approach to living in peace and harmony.
Nothing remains a constant except change. And change certainly has come to the Western Sumi areas with the upgradation of Niuland and Chümoukedima as districts.
The excitement of the inhabitants of the two new district is palpable and understandable. However, Niuland and Chümoukedima will miss the bus without change in the framework of thinking, doing and living. Niuland and much of proposed Chümoukedima is bereft of any development and therefore will not be starting again afresh, but will have to endure a raw beginning.
This means creating the primary need to promote entrepreneurial skills and infrastructural facilities. For this to happen, connectivity i.e. good roads must be there. Corruption in all its form and heads has been prevailing till date and is the reason for the deplorable roads that we have today in Niuland district.
It is the sum result of why there is abundance of poverty and not prosperity.
There cannot be an end without a beginning. In order to make a beginning, the WSH, on the 18th of January, 2022, held a consultative meeting with all its executive heads and area chairman under Western Sumi Hoho jurisdiction covering Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland districts, whereby it was resolved to bring about and create an environment of peace and security conducive for germination of ideas and wholesome development. To this end, the WSH makes this fervent appeal to all the organizations, unions and Naga political groups to extend total cooperation by stopping all forms and kinds of fund/donation drives and taxations within the WSH jurisdiction of the three districts.
This is an appeal to give ourselves and the younger generation, a chance to exploit ourselves and our full potential, a chance to redeem ourselves and enable good undiluted development to get a foothold in our land.
This is an appeal to all so that we do not miss the bus of development and prosperity that beckons us today.
