In a major drug seizure, the Dimapur police’s special operation team (special ops) arrested two persons along with huge quantities of Yaba (world is yours) tablets worth Rs. 5 crore here on February 16, 2022.
The two arrested accused have been identified as Abdul Gaffor Khan (24), of Khanlikar Baksa, Assam and Md Helal Khan (30) of Lilong Turil Ahambi, Manipur.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo, told Nagaland Post at his office chamber Thursday that the police received intel with regard to movement of drug consignment in some vehicles in Dimapur. Based on the intel, CP said the special ops team intercepted a vehicle and apprehended the duo along with drugs that was being transported to Assam from Manipur.
Stating that Dimapur police was trying its best to crackdown on drug and alcohol in the district, the CP has, therefore, appealed to general public to provide information to the police. He said that the police would maintain confidentiality of any citizen providing such information.
With regard to rampant extortion in Dimapur, CP said that police had been trying its best to curb illegal taxation.
He pointed out that a total of 99 cases had been registered for illegal taxation in Dimapur in 2021. CP, however, said that only three cases were filed by the victims, while the remaining 96 cases were through police intel and probe.
Lamenting that there were many complaints concerning illegal taxation but no complainants, the CP said it was difficult for law enforcing authority to take action without complainants. “Even though there is high rate of complaints, if there is no cooperation from the victim’s end, it is very difficult for the police to take actions,” CP said.
