Both Sechü FC Academy and G-Sports qualified for a slot in the quarter finals by winning in their respective matches during the fourth day of the ongoing Kohima Super Cup, here at IG Stadium on Thursday.
In a neck-to-neck match between Sechü FCA and United 4 FC, the former had a lucky break and won the match 2-1. The first goal of the match was scored by Rokovito Nipu for Sechü in the 5th minute which was later doubled by Neisede in the 42nd minute.
The tussle between the two teams continued even into the second half as Sechü tried to widen the gap while United 4 FC scrambled to make a dent in the score. United was rewarded with a spot kick after one of their players was faulted and the team registered a face saver goal which was netted by Nunsang in the 75th minute.
The match between G-Sports and Indira Gandhi Stadium (IGS) XI, was one of the most interesting games so far. Although, not so much for the latter as they faced a crushing defeat at the hands of the former.
IGS XI, however, did give a commendable performance although the team was made up of players from non-football sports including boxing, archery and taekwondo who are undergoing training at the stadium. G-Sports, one of the cup favourite teams, proved their superiority with 8-0 win.
With the first goal of the game coming from Temjenwati in the 6th minute, the barrage of goals continued even into the very last minute. Kekhrieletuo scored two goals, while his fellow teammates, Ratobe Poireng, Yhunshalo, Medoneituo, Menguzelie and Imlongchaba all contributed a goal each.
Sechü and G-Sports will now head to the quarter final round. Sechü and G-Sports alongwith the other two previous winners, New Market and Hurricane Boys will now make up the 4 teams from group 1 and together they will play in the quarters. Each team qualifying for the league round will play against the other three teams in their respective groups from where the two best teams would head for the semi-finals on May 28.
