Will safeguard ancestral land, rights at all costs: AKM

Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has declared of safeguarding and preserving ancestral land and rights at all costs and an appropriate action plan had been chalked out for pursuing under the banner of “Mission Heritage”. The student group has also urged all villages bordering Assam to be more vigilant, while asking all its units to be prepared for any eventuality. Further, if any untoward incident happened, it warned of holding the Nagaland government responsible.
Holding Assam government entirely responsible for the problems in the interstate border area, AKM claimed that it had over the years conveyed the same to the Nagaland government on several occasions.
It cited the incident at Aokum village jurisdiction in Mokokchung district on May 7 when its signboards from reserved forest were removed by Assam government agencies as a case in point.
Similarly, the student body alleged that Assam’s forest guards and Assam Police personnel had on February 13 removed its signboards from reserved forest, but were restored only to be removed again on May 7 by the same party as reported in the media.
AKM claimed that the reserved forest belonged to the student body and that it did not encroach upon anybody’s land. This was stated in a press release by AKM president Nungdokyanger Ao and general secretary Nekmi Longkumer.
