A three-member delegation of North East India Welfare Association Chennai (NEIWAC) met with the governor of Tamil Nadu, R. N. Ravi on October 15 at Raj Bhavan, Chennai and requested him to initiate a Centre for the study of North East India in Chennai.
In a press release, NEIWAC stated that the three-member delegation included Naga Christian Fellowship (NCF) Chennai pastor and NEIWAC president Wapangtoshi, NEIWAC vice president professor Dr. Pradeep K Sarma and NEIWAC general secretary Grace Lalrindiki Pachuau.
At the meeting, delegates updated the governor about the demographic profile of North East people in Chennai and its suburbs. They also requested the governor to initiate a centre for the study of North East India in Chennai and acknowledged his positive response.
Governor Ravi categorically mentioned about the importance of promoting North East culture and literature outside the region and expressed willingness to support such activities.
NEIWAC shared its activities and expressed gratitude to the Tamil Nadu government for the two North East nodal officers AIGP (Law & Order) and ACP (Intelligent Section) since 2014.
Meanwhile, a copy of M.Phil. dissertation on the topic, “A Study on a Migrant Christian Community in a Multi-Religious Society of Chennai with Special Focus on the Naga Christian Fellowship Chennai (NCFC)” research conducted in 2019 by Wapangtoshi under the supervision of Dr. James Ponniah at the University of Madras was also presented to the governor.
