Sümi Hoho (SH) has welcomed the resolution adopted by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) for repealing the Nagaland Municipal Act (NMA) 2001” , describing it as “commendable and a right move”.
Sumi Hoho president I Nikheto Jimomi and general secretary Dr Vihuto Asumi in a statement said that by going in sync with voice of the people, the legislators exhibited the true leadership spirit and pro-people nature of the government.
SH lauded chief minister Neiphiu Rio, his cabinet colleagues and all members of NLA for heeding to the call of tribal hohos and civil society groups to repeal NMA, so that the Act could be rewritten in the context of Naga society, protecting customary and traditional rights and practices of Naga people.
“Morning shows the day and therefore, with an applaudable beginning, the Sümi Hoho is very optimistic that the incumbent government will usher in a new beginning in bringing transformation in all walks of life in our land,” the statement read.
The duo further urged the State government to rewrite NMA at the earliest by taking the stakeholders into confidence.
As assured by the tribal hohos in the consultative meeting resolution on March 27, they declared that Sümi Hoho would extend fullest cooperation to the government in conduct of urban local bodies (ULB) elections once NMA was rewritten as proposed by the people.
