Vendors randomly putting up stalls along the I Vikheshe road between Hotel Tragopan and Khermahal Tata parking (Golaghat Road) area here has been causing traffic snarls even on Sundays, causing much inconvenience to commuters.
Most of the stalls are being set up by non-local vendors from Assam and some from Dimapur. Amidst the setting up of stalls on the foot pavement, it has also been noticed that customers often double park their vehicles, causing huge traffic congestion in the area and causing much inconvenience to commuters.
When contacted, deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur Sachin Jaiswal told Nagaland Post that he was not aware of any authorisation being given by the district administration allowing stalls in the area.
The same was also confirmed by DMC administrator Manpai Phom, who too stated that no authorisation or permit was given by DMC to open stalls in the area.
He assured that since the market was unauthorised and creating public inconvenience, DMC would take action. He said such unauthorised stalls in City Tower and Dhobinalla areas were removed in the past since no approval was taken.
When asked whether he had taken permit either from Dimapur district administration or Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) for setting up his stall on Sunday, one vendor replied that he was not aware whether permit was required or not. He assumed that there was no harm in putting up the stall without seeking anyone’s permission.
