Houses washed away by landslide at Choklangan village.

At least two houses were swept away by a landslide at Choklangan village in Noklak district on Sunday. According to Choklangan Students’ Union (CSU) president Mongtson L Chiu, the incident took place at around 1 am. Fortunately, no one hurt in the incident.
He attributed torrential rains for the last few days as the cause of the landslide and said the matter had been reported to the Noklak district administration.
In another incident, five paddy fields at Wonthai were damaged away by a landslide caused by haphazard dumping of earth from the recent road construction. He said the affected farmers were now under distress and required immediate help. Chiu claimed that the landslides also washed away roads in many areas connecting Noklak. One such incident happened at Ehoukeh King, Choklangan, making the area inaccessible. He urged the contractors to clear the road and make the area accessible at the earliest.
He said the villagers had also appealed to the authorities to immediately compensate the affected people, besides urging well-wishers to also assist the affected families.
