Ruling NDPP’s media and communication committee, in a rejoinder has termed the July 28 news under “Rio backs CM Biren Singh on comments on Manipur situation” as misleading and incorrect.
The M&CC reiterated that the chief minister had not stated that he stood by Biren’s Singh’s statement and therefore, the report was erroneous and called into question “ the intention and purpose behind the reportage.”
It may also be noted that the CMO had issued a rebuttal that clarified and rectified the report as carried in this newspaper on July 30.
The NDPP media committee asserted that the chief minister had been vocal about the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur and also claimed that he had “condemned the human rights atrocities in Manipur and continues to appeal to the Centre to take concrete steps towards restoration of peace, order and the confidence of the people.”
NDPP advised the “press and media fraternity to be more responsible in their reportage, especially when covering events of humanitarian crisis and political sensitivity.”
Further the party reiterated its deep concern over the Manipur crisis and agreed with the prime minister Narendra Modi that “the entire country has been shamed” and appealed to the Centre to take strong and decisive actions to restore normalcy and also declared its “readiness to extend any assistance that may be required” towards restoration of order and peace.
