Zunheboto district administration along with District hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) launched the 1st District girls sports club cum inter-school penalty shootout on the theme, “Empowering girls through Sports” on September 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Zunheboto local ground.
A press release by Atobo H Yeptho, IA Zunheboto stated that Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, who launched the tournament said the district administration launched the programme to give opportunities to girls to showcase their talent to the entire society and the world.
He took the examples of Mary Kom, Mirabai Chanu, Hima Das etc. who despite being a women fought against all odds, practiced every day and became a celebrated women’s sports champions.
He encouraged participants to never give up on their dreams but try their best and sincerely pursue to become a champion one day.
Viketoulie Metha, EAC cum nodal officer DHEW, in his welcome speech, express his gratitude towards all the school authority for participating in the launch of District Sports Club. He said involvement of primary girl child will grab their attention and led them to professionalism.
Nguvito Awomi, FLS, District hub for empowering of women (DHEW) explained about the goals of Beti Bachao beti padhao (BBBP) i.e ‘Save girl child and achieve their goal in the aspect of education’. He also explained the objectives of BBBP i.e elimination of gender bias, ensuring girl child survival, ensuring education and community participation of girl child and protection of girl child.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Livi T Yeptho, prayer of blessing by Vika H, associate pastor (Children) and special song by Nikina K Kiba from Little Spring School and lastly the DC declared the tournament open.
At the end of the tournament, Sacred heart school emerged as champion while Sunbeam school and Cornerstone school emerged as 1st and 2nd runners up in the first districts girls inter-school penalty shootout.
