Bakalia Sand Mahaldar Welfare Society (BSMWS) has clarified that it did not call for any ban on supply of sand to Dimapur. BSMWS president Bimal Teron said that following the implementation of the rate of sand (Rs. 32/cft), as agreed by SMSA Manja, SSUD, SSUC during the meeting at Siloni Forest rest house in 2000, the suppliers union in Karbi Anglong could not ply and sell sand at their selling price and therefore called for an indefinite bandh in Karbi Anglong. It, however, said that the indefinite ban on supply of sand to Dimapur was called by Sand Supplier Union in Karbi Anglong, Assam for their personal interest.

Meanwhile, BSMWS said that anyone willing to purchase sand at Rs. 32/cft was welcome to do so after getting their vehicles registered in the respective Sand Mahaldar office. Further, BSMWS said they were not concerned about the business of sand in Dimapur.
