With an aim to encourage potato farming in Nagaland, ten tonnes of potato seeds (Kufri Jyoti) under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) – Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, North Eastern Hill Region (NEH) Component was distributed by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dimapur on November 2.
A press release by KVK Dimapur stated that the potato seeds were distributed to various Self-Help Groups (SHGs), progressive farmers, and farmers’ societies of three districts – Chümoukedima, Niuland and Dimapur during a programme held at the Conference Hall of KVK Dimapur.
During the programme, Head of Regional Centre, ICAR, Nagaland, Dr.Homeswar Kalita encouraged the farmers to sincerely cultivate the potato with recommended package of practices.
SDAO of Chümoukedima district, Mr.Kevin Solo apprised the farmers of the various schemes of the department and said that assistance could be provided to genuine and sincere farmers after careful examination of the submitted applications.
In the technical session, Dr. Roben Singh discussed about the cultivation practices to be adopted in potato. The programme was chaired by Dr. Bendangla Imsong and vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Moanaro.
The programme was attended by KVK, ATMA officials and 70 progressive farmers.
