The foundation day of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura was celebrated at Dr. Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan Kohima on January 20. PRO to governor in a press release informed that Nagaland governor, La Ganesan graced the celebration as special guest.
The three states became full-fledged states on January 21, 1972 under the North eastern Region (Reorganisation) Act,1971.
On the occasion, the governor paid tributes to the spirit of the nation and said it was embodied in the “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” initiative, a reminder that “unity in diversity is our strength”.
He said through the initiative, the exposure to the cultures, traditions and practices of different states and UTs will lead to an increased understanding and bonding between the states, thereby strengthening the unity and integrity of India.
Ganesan informed that the programme was an initiative towards mitigating the lack of awareness of various cultures and also respecting and acknowledging the diversity and plurality of India.
He apprised the people that the significance and importance of such a program cannot be overstated.
By coming together to commemorate the foundation days of these states, the governor said that it not only honor their histories and achievements, but also promote a sense of unity and togetherness among the people of the Northeast.
Ganesan further said that the platform for exchange and understanding and allows everyone to appreciate and learn from the unique customs, music, dance, and art forms of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura.
He further said that the states build bridges of mutual respect and appreciation, fostering a spirit of unity in diversity through these interactions. The Governor also congratulated all the participants for their performances and handed over the certification of appreciation to the different Unions. On behalf of the state of Manipur, Library & Information officer, NEILIT, Nanda Singh spoke about Manipur while chairman, Khasi Christian Fellowship, Kohima, Emlin Kharkongor spoke about Meghalaya.
Marking the auspicious occasion, the gathering witnessed performances from the Mao Cultural Song (Lochu Lo), Poumai Cultural Dance (Dao astsii maisii peide pei va-a hrii-e, Forefather lived as Head hunter), Maram Cultural Item ( Kangraliiimai ) and Paite Cultural dance, Manipuri Martial Arts (Thang -Ta) and Khasi Cultural presentation ( Pye Neh La Riti & Ka Song Kwai).
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Jochule, Section Officer Raj Bhavan while vote of thanks was pronounced by Banuo Koza, Sr. Accountant Raj Bhavan.
