Sports aficionados in Nagaland are abuzz with excitement as the much-anticipated Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2024 is all set to kick off from February 12 to 17. While the official inauguration is slated to be held from February 12, the much awaited Olympic has already gripped the state with early matches commencing in both football and cricket disciplines.
In football, the tournament started on February 8 with teams battling it out in intense matches across different venues.
Teams have been distributed into four groups (see table), with each group comprising four teams, and the matches being played in a league system.
Here are the results from the initial football matches:
Tseminyu 4:1 Noklak, Kohima 13:0 Kiphire, Shamatore 1:0 Peren, Longleng 1:1 Dimapur, Niuland 1:3 Zunheboto, Phek 6:1 Mokokchung, Mon 2:0 Tuensang, Wokha 1:4 Chümoukedima.
Meanwhile, the cricket matches which commenced on February 7, also witnessed thrilling encounters as teams are competing in a knockout format.
Here are the results from the initial cricket matches: In the pre-quarter matches, Zunheboto won against Peren, Dimapur beat Kiphire, Niuland beat Longleng, Chümoukedima beat Kohima, Mokokchung beat Tseminyu, Wokha beat Tuensang, and Mon beat Phek. In the first quarter-finals between Zunheboto and Niuland, the latter won and reached the semi-finals.
