Zünheboto Town GB Association (ZTGBA) has refuted what it called “the wrong information being circulated on social media”, claiming that ZTGBA had pledged support for the Congress in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

ZTBGA chairman H Shihoto Zhimomi and secretary Akuto N Yeptho stated that ZTGBA was apolitical and non-religious association, which only serves to safeguard the customary laws of the society. “Deeming the association as openly campaigning for one party against the other is highly insulting and condemnable,” ZTGBA stated.

It reminded that on April 6, 2024, ZTGBA members were invited by District Congress Committee (DCC) Zunheboto in their capacity as facilitators to ensure free and fair conduct of the election procedure in their respective wards and the town in general.

ZTGBA also stated that it had already attended such a meeting with PDA alliance partners, adding that those meetings were the norm during the election process. Therefore, ZTGBA stated that attending such meetings should not be misunderstood or misinterpreted as the association “wilfully supporting one or the other party.”

The GBs stated that they were committed to the development, progress and safeguarding customary laws of the town, and had no inclination to use their office to align with any particular party. “The claim as such is preposterous and is a libel upon our association as per IPC Cyber Defamation Law,” ZTGBA stated.

The association said it would pursue the case through legal means. It said that the screenshot evidence of the defamation in one tribal dialect, along with FIR would be lodged at Zunheboto PS, if apology was not rendered to ZTGBA in written on or before April 10, 2024.
