In observance of “Oral Cancer Screening Month” under the National Oral Health Programme (NHOP), a four-day “free oral cancer screening” for all categories of staff under District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) got underway Tuesday at DHD Dental OPD.

A press release by the office of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dimapur informed that the screening was led by senior dental surgeon, DNO (NOHP) Dimapur, Dr. N. Moa Jamir, oral and maxillo-facial surgeon, Dr. Sentirenla, and junior dental surgeon, DHD, Dr. Japheth.

The CMO office informed that the free oral cancer screening for the staff was carried out from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and regular dental OPD for the public would commence at 10 a.m. onwards.
Meanwhile, the CMO office stated that as a health care provider, health workers have a professional responsibility to maintain their own health and wellness in order to provide safe and effective care to their patients.

Mentioning that health workers were the role models for their patients and communities, the CMO office said by prioritizing their own health and wellness through regular medical checkups, they were setting an example and reinforcing the importance of preventive healthcare practices.

Further, the CMO office said screening of oral cancer can save lives by facilitating early detection and prompt treatment especially for individuals with risk factors or a history of tobacco or alcohol use.
