A peaceful dharna was held at local ground, Seyochung in Kiphire district on Tuesday against the failure of the Power department to restore power supply to the town after almost a month, vice president of Joint Community Seyochung Town, Tsachomong said in a press note.
Tsachomong said that power supply to the town and some neighbouring villages was cut off after 100 kv transformer was damaged before the parliamentary election. At the dharna, a senior citizen of the town appealed to the department to restore power supply as the people were facing untold hardships. He said that even normal functioning of government offices had been greatly impacted due to the power cut and exhaustion of all backups. “Power supply to Seyochung is always at the mercy of weatheror something of that sort for too long,” he stated.
As power supply to the sub-division was manned and monitored by officers from Kiphire district headquarters, he pointed out the difficulties faced by the officials concerned to man such a far and large area.
Besides the difficulties faced by the officials of the department stationed far away, he alleged that there were coordination issues too. “Regular power supply has become a basic necessity and the people of the town has been left wanting for this basic necessity on many occasions,” he lamented.
The public also requested the Power department to post at least one junior engineer, especially for Seyochung sub-division, for ensuring better management of manpower in the field and hence better supply of power.
