KIC Greenwood, Dimapur Sporting Club (SSA) and KIC Kohima emerged as champions of the U-15, U-13 and U-10 categories respectively at the two-day 2nd Open Grassroots Football Tournament which concluded on Saturday.


The tournament was organised by Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) under the aegis of Nagaland Football Association (NFA), at IG Stadium, Kohima.
In the Under-15 category, Khelo India Centre Greenwood Dimapur emerged as the champions defeating Chedema Football Academy, 4-0.


In the Under-13 category, Dimapur Sporting Club (Soccer Schools Academy) defeated Billy Graham FC, 10-0. In the Under-10 category, Khelo India Centre Kohima defeated Gethemgo Sports Academy, 4-1.
The closing ceremony was graced by president, Angami Sports Association (ASA), Rokovikho Chale as the guest of honour.


Addressing the young athletes, Chale expressed confidence in the future of Naga football, highlighting that the efforts of the current leadership and visionaries would soon make a significant impact on Naga football history.


Chale urged the youth to adopt games and sports as a part of their lives. For those considering a professional career in sports, Chale stressed the need for extraordinary effort and preparation.
He encouraged young athletes to be well-equipped and punctual.


He also mentioned the importance of playing with a positive attitude and avoiding injuries. Chale assured that ASA was committed to advocating for updated sports policies from government agencies to help players excel and achieve their dreams. Earlier, the programme was chaired by executive member KDFA, Seyielhouvi Nagi, also featured a vote of thanks delivered by senior vice, president, KDFA, Roko Angami.


All the winners received Rs 10,000 each while the runners-up received Rs 5,000 each, along with medals, certificates and trophies.


Individual winners were:
In the U-10 category, Noto Sothu (Gethemgo Sports Academy) was named the most promising player.
Seshel Kechu (Gethemgo Sports Academy) and Hihito Zhimo (KIC Kohima) were awarded Best Player of the Tournament/Highest Scorer, each with three goals.

  • In the U-13 category, Kehethong Tep (Billy Graham FC) was named the most promising player. Lanmgouchung (Dimapur Sporting Club Soccer Schools Academy) received the Best Player of the Tournament/Highest Scorer award with seven goals.
  • In the U-15 category, Wangchon (KIC Greenwood) was named the most promising player. Lalminhai Thomson (KIC Greenwood) was awarded Best Player of the Tournament/Highest Scorer with five goals.
    A total of 25 teams from across the state participated in three categories: U-10, U-13, and U-15.
