Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has expressed concern over the surge of illegal immigrants into Nagaland “causing social unrest and undeniable threats to the Naga people” particularly the districts of Kohima, Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland.
In a joint statement, ASU president Khriesamhalie David Mere and vice president and grievances cell convenor Thejalhoukho Thomas Khawakhrie has extended support to the demand of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) for effective implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) regulations in the state and implement the same across the districts of Dimapur, Chumoukedima and Niuland.
The union also appealed to all the citizens to extend cooperation and support in its effort to protect people from the influx of illegal immigrants. Further, Angami Students’ Union informed the house owners, landlords, business establishments, hotels/lodge, guarantors and citizens concerned within the Angami inhabited areas that no individual without proper Inner Line Permit should be entertained at any cost. It said that such entries should be immediately reported to the district administration or ASU office.
The union also informed that any individual executing works apart from the permitted purpose of work/visit and residing with invalid permit should be immediately reported to the district administration or ASU office. The union cautioned that it would be vigilantly monitoring the implementation of Inner Line Permit regulations. The union further urged upon the Kohima district administration to effectively implement the same.
