Nagaland: New building of UPHC inaugurated in Wokha

A new building of Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) Wokha was inaugurated on September 20 by National Health Mission, Department of Health and Family Welfare Mission Director Dr. Akuo Sorhie.


In his speech, Sorhie informed that the inauguration of the new building of UPHC marks a significant milestone in the commitment to enhance health care services and also represent the joint commitment to provide accessible high quality health care to the people.


He said that strong step has been taken to improve the overall wellbeing of the community particularly in Wokha district. She highlighted that the health centre will continue to serve as a vital hub for providing essential health services including preventive, promotive and comprehensive primary health care services.


Delivering the welcome note, DPO (HSS) Wokha Dr. Zuchamo Patton, expressed the hope that UPHC Wokha situated at Likya colony in the heart of Wokha town will be a boon to the people seeking medical treatment for minor ailments.


Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Zubenthung Kikon, briefed the attendees on the history of the UPHC Wokha which was established in 2019. He thanked the medical staffs involved in the head count survey of Wokha town conducted in 2019 and in achieving the required population target for setting up of the UPHC.


He also expressed gratitude to contractor Pyobemo Murry, for donating the land for the new UPHC building as the health centre was previously functioning from a rented building.


Speaking at the inaugural programme, State Programme Officer (SPO), Dr. Merenenla Senlem, mentioned that through the UPHC, the concept of Universal Health Coverage under National Health Policy of 2017 has come along and also the concept of health and wellness centres. She expressed hoped that UPHC which will cate to the urban populace and will reduce the burden on the District Hospital.


Earlier, the programme was chaired UPHC consultant Openthung Kinghen and dedicatory prayer by Wokha Town Baptist Church assistant pastor Chumbenthung Murry. Vote of thanks was delivered by MO, UPHC Dr. Achumi Kikon. The programme was attended by medical directorate officials, medical superintendent, district programme officers, medical officers and medical staffs.
