To equip the local youth with blacksmithing skills, focusing on both traditional craftsmanship and modern, output-driven approaches, a 10-day “Output Oriented Blacksmith Training,” organized by Zynorique Initiatives Society and sponsored by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, commenced in Kohima on Monday.
The inaugural session was graced by secretary, department of Youth Resource and Sports, Anthony Ngullie, as special guest. In his speech, Anthony emphasized the immense potential and said the training was organized to preserve the traditional art and also ensure that local farmers have access to high-quality, locally crafted agricultural tools.
As the demand for such implements grows, he said the training will empower the youth to meet that need and tap into the expanding agricultural sector. He further said that state government was fully committed to foster such opportunities that promote the welfare of the people and create lasting economic growth.
Sinyu Solo, vice chairman of T Khel Council, and Akietuo Belho also addressed the participants, and stressed on the importance of discipline throughout the training.
Solo also reflected on the rich heritage of blacksmithing in Nagaland and encouraged participants to uphold the tradition while adapting to contemporary market needs.
The 10-day training will cover essential and advanced blacksmithing techniques, giving participants hands-on experience to produce market-ready products. The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the long-term self-sufficiency and economic growth of Nagaland by creating a sustainable, locally driven economy.
