In a virtual briefing chaired by State chief secretary Dr. J. Alam, state departments were urged to effectively implement the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PMJUGA) across the state to improve the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities, a DIPR report stated.
Speaking from Delhi, Alam emphasized that the scheme holds particular significance for Nagaland due to its predominantly tribal population.
He encouraged line departments to properly plan and submit their proposals to take full advantage of the scheme. He also directed the Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) to disseminate information widely to ensure maximum awareness among beneficiaries.
Secretary of Tribal Affairs, Angelina Tajen, highlighted that PMJUGA aims to improve infrastructure, economic empowerment, education, and livelihoods in tribal-majority villages.
She said that the scheme will cover 608 villages across all 16 districts of Nagaland as part of a broader initiative targeting 63,000 tribal villages across India.
Tajen stated that PMJUGA is a newly approved scheme by the Union Cabinet under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India. The initiative aims to address the specific needs and requirements of tribal areas over the next five years.
Its key objectives include the development of infrastructure, promotion of economic empowerment, universal access to quality education, and enhanced livelihood opportunities for tribal communities. All line departments with DCs of all districts attended the briefing via video conferencing.
