Sechü Zubza FC has advanced to the final at the 24th NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Asüfü Christian Institute in the first semi-final played at IG Stadium, Kohima, on Wednesday.
The decisive moment came early in the 17th minute when Rhitso Mero found the back of the net, delivering the lone goal of the match. Despite pressure from Asüfü Christian Institute, Sechü Zubza FC held a solid defense to maintain their lead and claim a spot in the championship match.
Rhitso Mero, whose goal sent Sechü Zubza into the final, was named Man of the Match. The award was presented by Medoviu Martin Suohu, Councillor of Ward 19, Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), who served as the match patron. Entertainment during the event was provided by guest artistes Neilaü and Methasieo Zhale, along with Litsuku Lohe.
In a preceding quarter-final match that was postponed due to technical issues, Circle FC Chedema secured their place in the semi-finals by defeating Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) 2-0.
Goals from Daniel in the 43rd minute and Joseph in the 82nd minute ensured Circle FC’s victory. Kekhrie Tsira of Circle FC Chedema was named Player of the Match, with the award presented by Vizokho Zashümo, convenor of the 24th NSF Trophy.
Principal Director of Health & Family Welfare, E. Motsuthung Patton was the match patron, and Azi Rudy performed as the guest artiste.
Second semi-final:
The semi-final clash is now set between Asüfü Football Academy (AFA) and Circle FC Chedema, on Thursday at 2 p.m.
Asüfü Football Academy has had a commanding run in the tournament, defeating Kohima Sports Club 2-0 in their first match and Kuki Students’ Organisation Nagaland 3-1 in the second.
They overwhelmed Orami FC 6-0 in the pre-quarterfinal and thrashed Michazou FC 7-0 in the quarterfinal. Circle FC Chedema has been equally dominant, crushing Eagle FC 14-0 in the second round after been placed on bye in the first round.
They advanced further by defeating Khrietho FC Meriema 2-0 in the pre-quarterfinal and securing a similar 2-0 win over Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong in the quarterfinal.
With Sechü Zubza FC awaiting their challenger, the road to the final promises an intense battle for the coveted trophy.
