Zeliang Students’ Union (ZLSU) Nagaland has called off the indefinite closure of educational offices across Peren district, effective November 4, following positive assurances from the Principal Director of the School Education.
The union, through its general secretary Sanlakbo Namdau, expressed gratitude to the PD for his commitment to addressing their demands, as discussed during a meeting on October 29.
ZLSU also extended its appreciation to deputy chief minister T.R. Zeliang, whose timely intervention helped resolve the month-long agitation sparked by the recent rationalization exercise within the School Education Department. The union acknowledged Zeliang’s understanding of their concerns and his role in facilitating a solution that supports the needs of local schools.
Further, they expressed gratitude to DC Peren Hiazu Meru, who actively mediated between ZLSU and the education department. The union commended Meru’s contributions, as well as the cooperation and patience shown by the Education Department in Peren District throughout the protest.
ZLSU thanked supporting unions and organizations, including the Mpai, Punglwa, Tesen, Nkialwa, and Kuki Students’ Unions, as well as the Tening Town Youth Organization. Their support, according to ZSUN, was instrumental in the movement’s success.
ZLSU also thanked all individuals and groups who contributed to the peaceful agitation, underscoring the importance of collective effort in achieving progress for students’ welfare.
