Aggrieved landowners affected by the Kohima-Jessami 2-lane road construction project, packages II, III, IV, & V on Monday temporarily closed down the office of the Regional Officer (RO) of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) in Kohima after the expiry of the ultimatum served on NHIDCL to release compensation.
In a press release, aggrieved landowners 2 lane road construction convenor Kiiveliiyi Chuzho said that its ultimatum yielded no positive response from the executive director of NHIDCL.
Despite numerous pleas and representations made by the affected landowners, aggrieved landowners said NHIDCL has shown a lack of urgency and commitment in addressing their grievances.
They said delay in providing lateral damage compensation and the continued neglect of the plight of the landowners have only added to their frustration and despair.
Therefore, the aggrieved landowners said they have decided to temporarily close the office of the RO NHIDCL. They said that the office would remain closed indefinitely until a written assurance is received from NHIDCL. The aggrieved landowners have urged NHIDCL to take immediate action and fulfil its obligations to address their grievances.
