Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) and National Students Union of India (NSUI) Nagaland state unit have condemned the reported physical assault on a female assistant professor of Nagaland University by professor Sarat Chandra Yenisetti from the university’s Zoology department on November 25, 2024 at Nagaland University, Lumami Campus.
In a condemnation note, AKM president Lanutoshi Aier and general secretary Satemmongba expressed dismay over the incident and vehemently condemned the “inhumane and heinous behaviour” of professor Sarat Chandra Yenisetti.
Further, expressing deep anguish over “this gruesome and barbarous act”, AKM said the professor’s act has not only brought upon shame to the sanctity of the reputed institution, but also showed his “work-place unprofessionalism.”
AKM has extended sympathy to the affected individuals and urged the law enforcing agencies to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation and award befitting punishment to the accused.
Affirming unwavering solidarity with the victims, NUSU-L, and the demands of the Lotha Students’ Union, AKM extended fullest support to ensure that justice be delivered at the earliest.
NSUI state unit: Condemning the “despicable and reprehensible” behaviour of professor Sarat Chandra Yenisetti, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) Nagaland state unit said that as an educator, he had grossly “betrayed” the trust and integrity of his position, exhibiting “a shocking lack of decency, professionalism, and respect for his peers.”
NSUI Nagaland through its social media chairman said that such “heinous actions” were “utterly unacceptable” in the society and warranted severe consequences.
NSUI stated that the recent incident was not an isolated case, adding that many students have had unpleasant experiences in the past as well. NSUI unit demanded his immediate and unconditional termination from his post to prevent any future recurrences of “this appalling behaviour.” NSUI Nagaland affirmed to ensure that the case was brought to a logical conclusion.
