Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has condemned the misuse of a representative image in an article titled “A Retrospect of the Current Manipur Violence,” attributed to a purported author, “Imchungla Ao,” from Mokokchung district.

AKM president Lanutoshi Aier and general secretary Satemmongba revealed that the Facebook page Zalengam Media falsely used the image of Imkongnukla Ao, a respected Nagaland civil servant, to represent the alleged author.

AKM clarified that the name “Imchungla Ao” does not belong to any known member of the Ao community, labeling it a fabricated identity. The student body expressed deep concern over the misinformation spread through social media, stating that it not only misled the public but also disrespected Imkongnukla Ao by associating her image with unrelated content.

AKM described this act as an unethical attempt to deceive, tarnish reputations, and sow confusion. It further warned those responsible to cease their actions and rectify the misrepresentation, adding that legal action would be taken against individuals or entities perpetuating such falsehoods.

AKM also urged media outlets and social media users to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of information and imagery before dissemination, emphasizing the importance of responsible communication.
